How one track hands over to the next. Smart is the one to leave it on: it crossfades between unrelated tracks but joins two songs from the same album with no gap at all, the way the record was meant to run.
Measures how loud each track really is (K-weighted, gated — the same method the streaming services use) and evens them out, so you are never reaching for the volume knob between songs.
Six bands, ±12 dB. Applied after normalization, so shaping the sound never throws the levelling off.
